Dried out by the tropics? It happens faster than you think
Phi Phi is hot and humid all year. A day of snorkelling, hiking up to the viewpoint or lying on Long Beach can cost you litres of sweat, and most people don’t drink nearly enough to replace it. Add a long flight and ferry to get here, a few drinks in the evening or a dive or two, and dehydration creeps up on you: a headache that won’t shift, tiredness, cramps and feeling flat.
Our Hydration Boost drip is for guests on Koh Phi Phi who:
- Feel tired, headachy or dizzy after a long day in the sun or heat
- Have muscle cramps after hiking, swimming or diving
- Arrived after a long journey and feel drained
- Have been sweating a lot and struggle to drink enough to catch up
- Were seasick on the ferry or a boat trip and can’t keep much down (see our seasickness guide)
Hydration IV ingredients
What’s in our hydration IV drip?
A simple, gentle drip. Your nurse checks your blood pressure and symptoms first and adjusts the drip to you.
| Ingredient | Why it’s in the drip |
|---|---|
| Balanced electrolyte fluids | Replaces the water, sodium, potassium and chloride you lose through sweat, straight into the bloodstream. |
| Magnesium | A mineral lost in sweat that helps normal muscle function. Low levels can add to cramps and tiredness. |
| Vitamin C | An antioxidant vitamin that supports normal immune function. |
Ingredients are pharmaceutical grade and the exact contents are confirmed by your nurse at the health check.
Do I need an IV drip, or is water enough?
For mild dehydration, drinking is usually enough, and it’s what we recommend first: water plus oral rehydration salts (sold as sachets at every 7-Eleven and pharmacy on the island), sipped steadily over a few hours, in the shade. An IV drip makes sense when drinking isn’t working or isn’t practical: when you feel sick and can’t keep much down, when you’re too drained to catch up by mouth, or when you want to feel better quickly before a boat trip, a dive or a flight.
We explain the difference honestly in our guide to IV drips vs drinking water.
How long does an IV drip take for dehydration?
Our hydration drip runs for about 30–45 min, plus around 10 minutes for the health check and setup. Most guests feel the difference by the time the bag is empty: fewer headaches, less dizziness and more energy. Keep drinking water afterwards, because a drip tops you up but doesn’t stop you sweating.
How much does a dehydration IV drip cost on Koh Phi Phi?
Our Hydration Boost drip costs from ฿2,900, including the visit to your hotel, bungalow, villa or boat on Phi Phi Don, the health check and a licensed nurse for the whole treatment. We confirm the price on WhatsApp before we set off. Travelling as a group? Ask for our group rate, or compare all our IV drip treatments and prices.
When you need a doctor, not a drip
Heatstroke is a medical emergency, not a drip at your hotel. Get help straight away for a very high temperature with hot skin that has stopped sweating, confusion or strange behaviour, fast breathing or heartbeat, a seizure or someone who collapses or can’t be woken. Call 1669 (Thailand emergency medical services), move the person into the shade and cool them with water and fanning while you wait. Also see a doctor for severe dehydration in a baby, child, pregnant woman or older person, chest pain, fainting, or no urine for 12 hours or more.

Hydration IV FAQ
Questions about dehydration drips
What are the signs of dehydration?
Feeling thirsty, a dry mouth, a headache, tiredness, dizziness when you stand up and dark yellow urine or peeing less often than usual. In the heat these can come on within a few hours.
Can I have a hydration drip before a dive or boat trip?
Yes, many guests book one the evening before or the morning of a trip. Tell your nurse your plans, and check with your dive centre if you have any doubts about diving on the same day.
Will a drip help with sunburn?
A drip can help with the dehydration that often comes with sunburn, but it doesn’t treat the burn itself. Cool the skin, use after-sun or aloe vera, and see a doctor if you blister badly, feel feverish or unwell.
Is it safe if I have a medical condition?
Tell us about any heart, kidney or blood pressure condition, and any medication, when you book. Extra fluid isn’t right for everyone, so your nurse may recommend a doctor instead. Read our safety standards.
